A structured curriculum for

long-term development

​

Training at Ascend is built around a clear, progressive curriculum designed to support students from their first class through to advanced practice.

​

Rather than chasing short-term results or relying on unstructured sessions, we teach Brazilian Jiu Jitsu through defined training phases. Each phase builds on the last, allowing students to develop understanding, confidence, and consistency over time.

​

This structure is what allows people to train safely, progress steadily, and remain on the mats for years.

Not everyone moves through these stages at the same pace — and that is intentional.

Progress is based on understanding and readiness, not time served.

L1
Beginners Course

​A structured introduction to jiu jitsu. Safety, movement, core positions, and foundational skills. Built for complete beginners.

L2
Foundation Curriculum

Core skills for white to blue belt progression. Six monthly themes covering takedowns, top control, guard fundamentals, passing, submissions, and integration. This is where your complete game begins to form.

L3
Base
Curriculum

Intermediate development for blue and purple belt practitioners. Deeper technical knowledge, strategic thinking, and more complex positional play.

L4
Advanced Curriculum

Advanced techniques, competition preparation, and personal game refinement. Separate tracks for Gi and No-Gi.

Gi classes at Ascend Jiu Jitsu focus on traditional jiu jitsu training using the gi. Students learn grips, control, and submissions while developing technique, timing, and strategy in a structured, skill-building environment.

Competition

Optional, supported, never mandatory

Some students compete regularly and achieve excellent results.
Many never compete at all.
Both paths are equally valued.
